Thanks to CATHODE, my iPad lets me be the coolest sysadmin on the block, with state-of-the-art emulation of video technology older than I am!
This is the best SSH client for iOS (in my opinion). It looks awesome and functions perfectly. One tip: it took me a few minutes to locate the settings button. After logging in to a server tap on the screen and a bar will appear at the top of the screen. There you can customize almost everything! This app is worth every penny! Buy it now!
“Back in the days of the command line interface, users were all Morlocks who had to convert their thoughts into alphanumeric symbols and type them in, a grindingly tedious process that stripped away all ambiguity, laid bare all hidden assumptions, and cruelly punished laziness and imprecision.” - Neal Stephenson Cathode is a terminal emulator, yes. And in that capacity, it works just fine. But it’s much, much more than that. Cathode is also a TIME MACHINE emulator. It provides a conduit back to the beginning of an era. An era when computers were a new, cultural enigma. If you were introduced to computers in the 80’s, Cathode will put a smile on your face for sure! You can also, with some tweaking, recreate the feel and character of the computers and terminals which were integral to the sci-fi movie classics of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Remember when Mother woke up the crew of the Nostromo? How about Joshua (AKA the W.O.P.R) from WarGames? Weird Science, Cloak & Dagger, The Andromeda Strain, TRON…. the list goes on. So ask yourself this: “Would you like to play a game?” END OF LINE
Ive used the Mac version for over a year, and this iOS version is a nice port.
Jump in your time machine back to 1985 and administer your servers with a virtual monitor. The visual setting options let you tweak this so everything is just right. Makes mediocre tasks fun to do.
I was going on a trip where I couldnt bring my laptop. Needed a terminal app to help monitor some apps on our servers. Tried a couple other apps and they all had one flaw or another. This app was perfect ... So far. Easy to configure . Easy to yes. Easy to connect via VPN. Perfect.
Turned up my Sshd log verbosity to debug and to me it appears Client (cathode iOS) is erroneously killing the session despite using a valid key. Also couldnt import key from clipboard. Please fix- I love the osx version!
The best SSH client I have come across on iOS; easy to use, great management of multiple configurations and connections, and very enjoyable visual effects. This app makes remote server management fun...
This SSH client is great, though I turn off all of the effects as I find them distracting. I use it to check in my server remotely when I am out and about. I think the only thing I would change would be to allow me to disable the wobble when you scroll and make it the same as a normal scroll rubberband effect.
Putting the awesome graphics aside, this app does a great job at doing what it was made to do: SSH. I got it because there was bluetooth keyboard support (which worked great with my Logitech M1 keyboard) and because of the graphics. I read some reviews that complained about the graphics making the text hard to read. I didnt have that issue, but that was mostly because I was able to change the effects. You can basically turn off any feature that you dont want, but then that makes it boring, and youd be better off buying a different app. This one was worth getting though. I loved playing with the features and making my SSH session a lot more fun. PROTIP: It wasnt apparent to me at first since there wasnt any instructions on this, but apparently the text size can be adjusted by pinching the screen. I had a couple applications that required there to be at least 80 columns and the default text was so large that I only had about 70. I emailed the support team and they replied within 5 minutes and told me about the pinch to zoom feature. I would totally buy another application from these guys.
Crashes after attempting to connect to the server
Hands down one of the best ssh clients for iOS. Worth every penny.
The app works great with the default keyboard, but if you use the Japanese keyboard or SwiftKey (or possibly other keyboards, I didn’t try any) it doesn’t work well. If you use SwitftKey and type “git”, when you press space it will automatically put “gitgit “, which is really annoying. Otherwise it is a nice app.
First of all love the app the graphics are amazing and it does look like youre actually using an old-school terminal I really want this to be my go to default SSH application but they are a few things that stop you from doing that. And considering this is a paid app I expect to see some of the basic options that other SSH clients already have. For example there needs to be a easy way to switch between sessions, maybe a gesture? It would be great if the app remembered the color settings for each host that way I can easily see what host I am using if Im using more than one at the same time. Key management would be great too! I hope the developer keeps working on this app because it can truly be the most amazing ssh client ever
iPhone 6 Plus (8.1) using Cisco AnyConnect VPN and Im now able to access my servers command line from pretty much anywhere now. I like the ability to open multiple SSH terminals to the same machine. Just found how to change font/effects. Nice work.
No telnet support.
Love it on my Mac. Love it even more on my iPhone. Its the perfect throw-back to my days at University, telneting into Vaxen.
For those who want a terminal (SSH) application that looks amazing, this is it. Reminds me of the Fallout 3 computer terminals.
Probably the best SSH app for iOS, even if you dont use any of the effects.
